Fender® Stratocaster Relic 1988 '57 Reissue, Vintage White - Sold

This is a 1988 Vintage '57 Reissue that has been reliced to a Mary-Kay-look finish.

The guitar appears to be original to 1988 other than for the relic finish which clearly has not come about from regular use over the 20+ year life of this instrument but is the deliberate work of someone who very much knew what they were doing. The neck pocket has the period-correct two screw holes used to suspend the body during painting. The neck has the date written on the end in pencil under the nitro finish and the narrow dot spacing from this era. The case is the proper tweed version with the red/orange fuzz interior.

Perhaps the most interesting feature of this guitar is an Ink stamp on the neck that says simply "J. Cruz". John Cruz is currently one of the master builders for the Fender Custom Shop instruments. He joined Fender in 1987 but, of course, at that time there was no Custom Shop. We have no idea what John Cruz's involvement was with this piece but obviously there was something. Irrespective of who did the relicing on this instrument, the guitar plays as though it has indeed been gigged over many decades with the quirks, idiosyncrasies and vibe that you get in a vintage piece.
