SearsĀ® 319 '71 Acoustic, Sunburst
- Sold
Whereas Sears had sold guitars, made by Harmony, under the Silvertone brand, from 1970 onwards, equivalent instruments were sold under their own SR Sears & Roebuck brand. This one is from 1971 and the catalog from the time describes the guitar as follows:
"Sears & Roebuck" guitars, made by Harmony craftsmen to Harmony standards of quality, enjoy a nationwide reputation as the best conventional flat-top instruments at their price for the student or the beginner. All are dependably built of selected hardwoods, and have the Harmony slim, thin, reinforced neck and accurately fretted fingerboard, with bone string-spacing nut. This model included these features:
- Nicely grained and shaded cherry red finish,
- Three-in-a-row tuning keys,
- Rosewood fingerboard, with inlaid pearlette position markers,
- Striped edges (we think this refers to the binding)
- Decorative rosette design
- Pinless type ebonized maple bridge
So they were inexpensive starter models that didnt really attempt to stand up against the Gibsons and Martins of the era. But they absolutely have a cool vibe and a sound of their own. This one has been properly set up, plays well and is a true vintage instrument.
