AirlineĀ® National Res-O-Glas, Red
- Sold
In the world of guitars, the term 'Airline' is used to refer to the Valco Airline Guitar. Valco was a manufacturer of guitars, guitar amplifiers, and other musical instruments. The company was founded in the 1940s and ceased operations in1967. Valco manufactured the Airline Guitar series between 1958 and 1968. The series was marketed and sold by Montgomery Ward.
This model National Valco Airline guitar was produced in the early to mid 1960s. It is distinguished by its Res-O-Glas body, made from two thin halves of a hollow fibreglass shell, which coveres a narrow solid wood core. The pickups, neck, tailpiece, and controls are all anchored to this wooden centre block. The edges of the front and back fibreglass sections are connected together by a continuous bead of flexible vinyl. The guitar is noted for its deep lacquer finish. This guitar has a roller bridge, and dual humbucking pickups and a painted wooden neck, which features Kluson tuners and a bound rosewood fretboard. We believe that this one is from around 1964.
Many of these guitars have aged poorly and have become impossible to set up so that they play well. This one is in excellent overall condition as you can see from the many detailed pictures. In addition, the set-up is good and stable. The action is not super low but it is certainly comfortable to get around.
If this vintage piece is appealing but you want something that is a little less expensive or something you can take out on the road, check out this fine Eastwood '59 Custom or this Eastwood 2 Pickup Deluxe.
