GibsonĀ® Melody Maker 1967, Fire Engine Red - Sold

The Melody Maker was introcuced in 1959 as the student or starter guitar for the Gibson line. Although using the same scale length as its more prestigious cousins, the Melody Maker's body was not as deep and the headstock was narrower. The guitar went through a number of body shape changes, ending up by 1967 with the familiar SG shape, having two slightly non-symetrical horns. This one has had the original tremolo arm removed and replaced with a more-stable wraparound bridge. It has the original two Gibson single coil pickups that were exclusive to these Melody Maker Models. Other than for the tremolo, everything seems to be original on this guitar but it has clearly seen a good deal of action. Beyond the normal checking that you would expect in a guitar of this great age, it has some stress cracks in the lacquer that perhaps have been caused by the instrument being dropped or otherwise abused. (You should be able to see everything in the very detailed pictures that we have taken.) Still, the headstock is in good shape, the neck is stable and the guitar stays in tune as well as any of these instruments. There is an enormous amount of character in this piece of history.
