Tokai® Love Rock, Sunburst - Sold

This listing has generated some controversey. We believe that this is a 2001 Tokai, "Love Rock Les Paul". It has a beautiful cherry sunburst on a two-piece solid maple top showing some nice flame. It has a very dark rosewood fretboard which we think must be Brazilian and excellent frets with minimal wear. What is peculiar about this instrument is that the knob configuration is changed from the regular Gibson style (the shape looks like it is backwards), the horn is much more rounded than you would find on a regular Gibson (or on a regular Tokai copy) and the headstock does not have the center indent. It has been suggested to us that this model was produced by Tokai as an export model specifically to avoid copyright problems with Gibson (but that does not seem to be a problem that Tokai have generally worried about). It has also been suggested that this is not a Tokai at all but a Tokai copy produced by Dillion, however, we are fairly sure that this is not the case. Other than a couple of minor dings and some light belt buckle rash, this instrument is in great shape. It has a low, comfortable action and the neck is straight. This is a unique guitar in fine condition. These Tokais have become highly desirable as more players and collectors discover these hidden gems.
