AmpegĀ® Gemini II - Sold

Ampeg’s Gemini I was a 22 watt amp with a solid state rectifier and a 12" speaker. it was supposed to have a strong clean sound and was aimed primarily at jazz guitar players. It proved to be a good seller with its two channels, better tone controls and more power than the popular Reverberocket.. The Gemini II was introduced in 1965. With output beefed up to 30 watts by way of a fixed bias power section and a 15" speaker, representing a more powerful alternative to the Gemini I. Like its smaller sibling, the Gemini II is a two channel amp with separate bass and treble controls. It too is well suited for warm, clean jazz tones at lower volumes but, as with most tube amps from the period, when you crank the amp it delivers a wonderful tube crunch. The Gemini II remained in Ampeg’s catalog until 1968 when it was superseded by the GV-15 Gemini 15.

This one is from 1967. The tone controls really do their job providing a broader tonal range than would normally be expected; the 15" speaker certainly helps with the low end if that is what you want to dial in. The inputs are for guitar and accordian (were people still playing accordian in 1967?) plus tremolo depth, intensity and reverb (marked 'Echo' by Ampeg). The tremolo is deep as is the reverb; you can see the big reverb tank in the pictures of the inside of the amp along with the well-preserved tube chart and wiring diagram.
