GibsonĀ® ES-120T 1962, Sunburst
- Sold
These are not very common instruments at all. Whilst it is a proper thinline archtop, it was very much geared to the student guitarist, indeed it has a Melody Maker pickup mounted in a simple molded plastic pickguard, somewhat reminiscent of the basic features of the Melody Maker line. The pickup/pickguard assembly could be dropped straight into the guitar, greatly reducing manufacturing costs. This one is from the first year of production in 1962. (The line was discontinued in 1971.) For a guitar of this age, it is in great shape and it plays well. This is what the Gibson catalog of the time had to say about the guitar:
- ES-120 T Good looks, fine performance and low price. These are the qualities that have made this electric Spanish guitar a favourite with amateur musicians. Features an exclusive, patented finger rest pickup.
- FEATURES: Arched maple top and back, mahogany rims. Slim, fast, low action neck joins body at the 14th fret. Mahogany neck, adjustable truss rod. . Rosewood fingerboard, pearloid dot inlays. Adjustable rosewood bridge, chrome-plated trapeze tailpiece. Powerful pickup mounted off the body in finger rest. Individual tone and volume controls. Cord jack mounted on finger rest. 16 ¼" wide, 20 ¼" long, 1 ¾" thin; 24 ¾" scale, 20 frets.
This is a beautifully-aged, affordable Gibson archtop from the '60s in excellent condition with the original hardshell case.
