The Hiwatt DR405 Custom (also named the Hiwatt Custom 400) is an all-tube bass amp head. The vast majority of bass amplifiers in today's market are not tube amps, and even most tube bass amps are not all-tube. Many have a solid state power section powered by generic circuit boards and no power tubes. If you want that warm and solid all-tube tone, best craftsmanship and materials, look no further. These hand-built classic bass amplifiers are based on the 1970's range made famous by John Entwhistle, now used by countless touring bands such as Coldplay, The Hives, Supergrass, The Killers and Franz Ferdinand. Completely made by hand, with point-to-point wiring and construction, these are the real deal in British bass amplifiers. They really don't get any better.

In order to move the amount of air that is necessary to get bass frequencies to compete in volume with guitar amps, a great deal more power is required. So the 400 watts used here is by no means overkill. The trade-off with a tube amp of this power is that it is extremely heavy, about 70lbs on our scales. So get your roadie earning his keep and get one of these monsters.
