Alamo® Challenger 2562
- Sold
Supposedly there were two models of the Alamo Challenger 2652 amp made. The research we have dones states that the early ones had a tall cabinet, a 10 inch speaker and 3 inputs and that later ones had a smaller cabinet, 8 inch speaker and slightly different circuit.
The tall cabinet models were from 1967; the smaller cabinet designs came later. This categorically is not a tall cabinet model but it has a 10" speaker and three inputs. So we are not exactly sure where this one falls, it may be a transition piece but my uneducated guess is that this is actually an earlier model. Perhaps someone out there with more information can clue us in.
Anyway, to the amp. This design was Alamo's answer to the Fender Champ amp. The circuitry and tube completelment are supposed to be very similar: the tubes are 12AX7, 5Y3GT and 6V6. And this does indeed sound like a Fender Champ amp with a very Fendery clean sound in the first half of the volume range and then it gets a nice grind going after that. The Fenders are highly collectable and expensive as a result. This amp is super-clean and sounds great, for much less money. A point-to-point, hand-wired tube amp for the same amount as some well known brand all-transistor amps cost.
